Rangoli Foundation Presents ‘’Enduring Traditions’ on Sunday,
June 30, 2002 at the Madrid Theater in Canoga Park, California, at 4:00 P.M.
‘Enduring Traditions’ is an evening of elegant music and dance
imagery (‘Bharata Natyam’, classical dance of India) by the mother-daughter duo,
Malathi Iyengar & Lakshmi Iyengar & a ‘Violin Concert’ by Lalgudi Srimathi
Brahmanandam & Anuradha Sridhar.
The concert featuring the best of south Indian classical music and dance
traditions, showcases new choreographic works by Malathi Iyengar and music
compositions by Rajkumar Bharati, a celebrated musician from India. Malathi and
Lakshmi Iyengar, following the ‘Pandanallur/Tanjore ‘dance traditions of Guru
Narmada of Bangalore, India and the late Guru Kittappa Pillai, descendant of the
Tanjore Quartet are accompanied by musicians from India, Balasubramanyam Sharma
(vocal), Gurumurthy (Mridangam) & H.S. Venugopal (Flute).
‘Violin Concert’ featuring south Indian classical music by Lalgudi Srimathi
Brahmanandam and Anuradha Sridhar belonging to the musical lineage of saint
Thyagaraja is accompanied by Gurumuthy on Mridangam (percussion).
The evening also features Malathi Iyengar’s disciples, Shyamala Moorty and
Sandra Chatterjee.
