2015 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Rangoli Foundation for Art & Culture! In celebration of this landmark occasion, join Rangoli Dance Company for the acclaimed work from RDC repertory: Sacred Geometry.

Malathi Iyengar is a Los Angeles based choreographer, dancer, teacher, writer, and visual artist. Iyengar holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Choreography and Performance from University of California, Los Angeles. Iyengar studied Bharatanatyam (classical dance of India) from guru Narmada of Bangalore, India and choreography and improvisation under the mentorship of Marion Scott. Iyengar is the artistic director of the Rangoli Dance Company & Rangoli Foundation for Art & Culture, a non-profit organization, which was founded in 1985.

Malathi Iyengar is the recipient of the 2013 COLA Choreography Fellowship from the City of Los Angeles and the 2010 Lester Horton Award for Outstanding Achievement in World Dance for her choreography ‘Shivaya’. A recipient of numerous awards for her choreographic works, Iyengar is recognized as a Master Artist of Bharatanatyam dance by the Alliance for California Traditional Artists. Rangoli Foundation is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the 2015-2016 Season.

Dorcas Román is a dancer/choreographer native to Puerto Rico and the artistic director of DRDT. With a BA in theater from UPR and a MFA in choreography from UCLA Roman has been active in dance and theater for over 23 years. DRDT had toured to festivals in Spain, Brazil, Germany, Chicago, New York, Texas, Vermont, Boston and around Southern CA. Roman is extremely excited to continue to teach dance and choreography around United States and abroad.

Sacred Geometry is a favorite of audiences and company dancers, using geometric figures and shapes to describe the beauty of creation, and how absolute unity exhibits multiplicity and diversity. Whether the product of an eastern or western culture, the geometric shapes, and circular ‘mandalas’ are familiar and pervasive images throughout the history of visual and performing arts. Come celebrate Rangoli Dance Company’s 30th Anniversary with Sacred Geometry!
